What is sports and why engage in sport?

What is Sports?

An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

“Incorporated into the definition of ‘sport’ are all forms of physical activity that contribute to physical fitness, mental well-being, and social interaction. These include play; recreation; organized, casual or competitive sport; and indigenous sports or games.”

Why engage in sports?

Physiological effects and health benefits of sports and games.

1.      Exercise, physical activity, and sport have long been used in the treatment and rehabilitation of communicable and non-communicable diseases.

2.     Physical activity for individuals is a strong means for the prevention of diseases and for nations is a cost-effective method to improve public health across populations.

3.     Improved Blood Circulation

Blood circulation get's better when you start playing sports. The body remains well oxygenated. Thus, it remains more healthy and active. Apart from blood circulation, being physically active can also increase the amount of hemoglobin and the volume of blood.

4.     Stronger Immunity

Regularly indulging in exercise and sports makes the body immune to many diseases that usually affect a person due to weak immunity. When a person exercises, the rate at which white blood cells reach every body part increases significantly. Playing sports increases sweat production and also removes toxins. Due to the rise in body temperature, the chances of bacterial growth also lessen.

5.     Muscle Toning

Sports are actually the best form of working out for muscles. Toned muscles are always desirable and that’s what you get when you play sports. The endurance of muscles also increases with time and this helps you in gaining a stronger body. Both inner and outer muscles get toned up when one plays any sport. For example, running involves working out both the inner and outer thigh muscles.

6.     Stronger Bones

Playing sports is beneficial in strengthening not only the muscles but also the bones in your body. Bones get their strength from bone density and aging decreases bone density, which can result in osteoporosis. Taking up sports is perhaps one of the easiest ways to maintain bone density and strength for people of all ages.

7.     Positive Attitude

Sports can bring a positive attitude to your life if played in a healthy manner. It refreshes the mind and helps in developing a positive and fresh outlook towards life.

8.     Lower Cholesterol Levels

Sports also help in maintaining lower levels of bad cholesterol. Some experiments showed that compared to athletes, bad cholesterol levels in sedentary people were much higher, while good cholesterol levels were significantly higher in athletes.

9.     Healthy Heart

Playing sports helps with stretching ability. The heart benefits the most from playing sports and there are fewer chances of malfunctioning of your heart. Playing sports help the heart in pumping more blood as it is a type of workout for the body.

10.  Control Diabetes

Playing sports helps the insulin to perform in a better manner. This helps diabetic people to make most of the insulin present in their body. Also, physical activity helps in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. It can also help in weight management since it burns excess calories.

11.  Weight Management

Obesity is a big issue faced by millions of people across the world. This issue can be dealt by indulging in loads of sports or similar physical activities. Fat gets burnt and calories are shed through rigorous physical activity involved in sports. People who regularly play sports are naturally leaner and fitter.

12.  Lower Hypertension

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, may result in a stroke or heart disease. This makes the control of hypertension absolutely necessary. Hypertension can be prevented by being physically active or by.

13.  It improves energy levels

Regular exercise often makes people feel more energetic, allows them to be more active, and reduces the likelihood that they'll tire during the day.

14.   It enhances emotional well-being.

Most people report that they feel calm and have a sense of well-being after they exercise. Exercise, according to one theory, releases beta-endorphin, a natural substance in the body that is hundreds of times more potent than morphine.

15.   It helps prevent cancer.

People who exercise regularly have lower incidences of cancer. The cancers most affected include colon, prostate, uterine, and breast cancers.

16.  It helps keep arteries and veins clear.

Exercise reduces the amount of harmful cholesterol and fats in a person's blood. It increases the flexibility of the walls of blood vessels and helps to lower blood pressure. This can reduce a person's risk of heart attack and stroke.

17.  It strengthens the lungs.

Working hard increases lung capacity and their efficiency in moving air in and out of the body. As a result, more oxygen is drawn into the body and more carbon dioxide and other waste gases are expelled. Regular exercise helps prevent the decline in oxygen intake that occurs naturally with age or as a result of inactivity.

18.  Enhance the Immune System

Being active is great for the body in helping to enhance one’s immune system.  As a report from Aging Home Health Care states, “Physical activity can help prevent or maintain control in some chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes arthritis, and even some types of cancer.” Physical activity done over a consistent period can also help in improve the overall quality of life and assist in longevity. Examples: Exercising, playing games, horseshoes, golf, bike riding, or basketball. (All sports can be altered for different levels of physical function abilities)

19.  Improve Flexibility

Moving can assist in stretching muscles and in turn improve flexibility. Try doing some active hobbies such as these to get moving. Examples:  Wii Games, walking, Yoga, stretching, swimming, painting, Tai Chi or dancing.

20.  Improve Memory

Many hobbies will challenge your mental abilities and enhance your problem-solving skills. Most hobbies also offer mental stimulation in reference to completing the task. Examples: Word searches, Crossword Puzzles, Brain games, Soduko, or Card games.

21.  Reduce stress

Most people pursue hobbies because they enjoy them, and many things that we enjoy doing help relieve stress in our lives. Some of these ideas may also help create a calm atmosphere to reduce stress. Examples: Cooking or baking, gardening, taking a walk, singing, reading, or playing a musical instrument.

22.  Improve self-esteem

Some hobbies even involve other people which can create social opportunities and improve self-esteem! Examples: Card games, board games, shopping, knitting, or scrapbooking.

23.  Better Quality Sleep

Being more active during the day helps create a more restful night’s sleep. Just be sure to do more active hobbies earlier in the day so you can be sure to have enough time to wind down before bed.

24.  Sports improve your mood

Whether you are playing sports, working out at a gym, or taking a brisk walk, physical activity triggers brain chemicals that make you feel happier and more relaxed. Team sports, in particular, provide a chance to unwind and engage in a satisfying challenge that improves your fitness.

25.  Sports improve your concentration

Regular physical activity helps keep your key mental skills sharp as you age. This includes critical thinking, learning, and using good judgment. Research has shown that doing a mix of aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities is especially helpful. Participating in this kind of activity three to five times a week for at least 30 minutes can provide these mental health benefits.

26.   Sports reduce stress and depression

When you are physically active, your mind is distracted from daily stressors. This can help you avoid getting bogged down by negative thoughts. Exercise reduces the levels of stress hormones in your body. At the same time, it stimulates the production of endorphins. These are natural mood lifters that can keep stress and depression at bay.

27.   Sports improve sleep habits

Sports and other forms of physical activity improve the quality of sleep. They do this by helping you fall asleep faster and deepening your sleep. Sleeping better can improve your mental outlook the next day, as well as improve your mood.

28.  Sports boost your self-confidence

Sports provide you with a sense of mastery and control, which often leads to a feeling of pride and self-confidence.The regular exercise that comes with playing sports can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem.

29.   Sports have been linked to leadership traits

Team sports such as soccer, baseball, and basketball are breeding grounds for leadership traits. Studies done in high schools reveal a correlation between sports participation and leadership qualities.

30.  There Is the Ability to Overcome Dyslexia

The benefit of games is that they force you to concentrate for long periods of time. Chances are you won’t even realize that you’re concentrating for these long periods of time.

31.  Your Vision May Improve

You’re forced to look for details and distinguish between different shades of the same color. This ability becomes useful in the real world, as you will find it easier to distinguish between colors while playing. You’ll notice smaller details.

32.  There Are Creativity Benefits

Creativity does lead to health benefits, either sports and games certainly develop creativity.

33.  Improve the Memory and Other Cognitive Abilities

We hear all the time about how we need to keep our brains working to keep the function at the highest level. Examples are crosswords and Sudoku puzzles, there’s no denying that these games may be able to help. Just think about the amount that your brain must do while you’re playing the games.

34.  Take Your Attention Off the Pain You Feel

The benefit is while you’re playing the video games, you’re taking your mind off the pain that you feel. Your focus is on the game—something that you’re enjoying. You’ll forget the pain that was there.

35.  Gamers Are Better Surgeons

When you play games, your hands are always working. You must look at the details on the screen, make quick decisions, and keep the stress levels down. You must work within small spaces while controlling the accuracy on your targets.

36.  Playing badminton promotes the activity of the bone forming cells and help in the

assimilation of calcium in the bone matrix, thereby strengthening it.

37.  Additional health benefit of playing sports is reduced incidence of cancers like cancer of

the large bowel and cancer of breast.

38.  Playing sports and games keeps you: feeling well,

39.  Strong, motivated,

40.  Enthusiastic and young.

41.  It helps to ward off depression, anxiety, stress and increase self-esteem.

42.  It also helps in enjoying a better sleep in the night, thereby minimizing the incidence of pre-existing illnesses getting aggravated due to lack of sleep.

43.  Helpful in hypertensive individuals.

It may help them to ward off their hypertension without medicines and even if they are needed, only fewer amounts are required.

44.  Increases the levels of HDL good cholesterol while decreasing the levels of bad cholesterols.

As bad cholesterols decrease the size of blood vessels promoting heart attacks and strokes, reduction in their levels translates into multiple health benefits for the individual.

45.  Improved Quality of Life

Studies have demonstrated a clear benefit in senior citizens who played sports in their teenage years. A 2013 study published by BMC Public Health re-examined World War II veterans 50 years after initial testing. Those who had played varsity high school sports reported having fewer doctor visits per year.

46.  Improve social life:

Finding companionship through bowling leagues and teams can ease loneliness in the elderly and others who live alone, reducing stress and depression. Social relationships around shared interests can increase longevity.

47.  Hand-eye coordination

Throwing the bowling ball and hitting the pins requires a great amount of hand-eye coordination. This kind of focus stimulates mental alertness, concentration, and tactical strategy.

48.  Improves endurance

Having an increased endurance allows athletes to reach their full potential in sports but most importantly, will keep their heart healthy.

49.  Improved joint flexibility and range of motion. Improved flexibility reduces the risk of injury.

50.  Enhanced aerobic fitness

Participating in aerobic activities — such as running, cycling, or swimming — can improve your body’s ability to transport and utilize oxygen in the lungs and blood

Reflection Research Activity

“Be patient yourself. Self- growth is tender; it’s holy ground. There’s no greater investment.”

Our first research activity in Brgy. Serna was intimidating at first yet there is a feeling of excitement. The questioner even bothers me to think that it was very clichĆ© to the participants but still I considered as a basic foundation of getting to know the community of the said barangay. The 1st purok made me worried about their living status when we dropped and started looking for a participant to interview because the ambiance and houses look like for indigent people, getting to know my first interviewee I was amazed because “ate” is very hospitable and accommodating. As I figure their life, they are happy and satisfied. At her young age as a parent, I find out that there is a lot of a thing that they need to have. Like marriage because ate and her husband are not yet married though they already have one child.

With my second interview with another participant, I wonder that “ate” and I are at the same age. She already had two children and also not yet married to her living partner. As I walked through the road a daydream of living in Brgy Serna took me into another place, it is a good place for me, I think. The place is very silent and peaceful and even it is a very small barangay.

Whatever the life of the two “ate” I’d interviewed it is their free will to live happily ever after. They have freedom and choices to become a steward and a parent for their children. Destiny is not mattered of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved. Let us believe in ourselves! Have faith in God and in our abilities. Without a humble but reasonable confidence in our own powers, we cannot be successful or happy.  I wanted to change the world. But I have found out that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself. And lastly, I conclude that life can only be glorious if you learn to live in total harmony with the Lord.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Reflection
Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Mother Teresa is an image of peace, love, and inspiration. What she really wanted in her life is to help the poor and feed those in hunger. I hope that I can be like her, she recalls me my ambition in life which is to be simple and humble. She taught that life doesn’t need strategies it is the LORD who will guide you and brings you into His desire. Self-emptying (Kenosis) is a service of an eternal life, let the sick and deceased be cured and feed the hunger, give light and shelter to those who are homeless and be satisfied with what you have. Many are called but only a few are chosen. I will remember that prayer is the most powerful tool we have in our life, prayers can move mountains.

The freedom of Mother Teresa is not a personal freedom but an authentic self-determination of doing what is good and need for others. I wanted to cry when she witnessed the death of the little girl and when the priest asked himself to be in the position of Mother Teresa during the life-saving operation. A miracle is not impossible.

I wanted to become a priest but maybe I am destined to help those sick. Like “Anna” though she believed that her life is to follow and stay with the congregation, Mother Teresa told her that even though that she’s in London her soul remains in Calcutta.

To quote Mother Teresa “Life is life let us defend it always and with a smile, helping the weakest, the poorest, the sick the old. Defend our children from the culture of indifference and death. Defend life upon right conception till death and if someone is not able or capable to do it and trust it to me“.

I will remember Mother Teresa of Calcutta because the year she died was the year I was born and I this opportunity of knowing her is getting to know who I should be. There is darkness in every person but if you pray and think of goodness you will feel happy and do it.

Mother Teresa showed conscience, freedom, and dignity of a truthful Christian with a moral virtue. She is an extraordinary nun and a nurse of every race. I will and I will do what she wanted to have in this world.

Classification of Sins

Basic Notion of Sin

Missing the mark

James 4:17

Sin is missing the mark of what God wants us to do. II Timothy 3:7 speaks of "always learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." This verse is the negative way of phrasing the same concept. We have all the knowledge about what to do and how to live righteously, but if we fail to do it, to put it into practice, it is sin to us. It becomes a selfish pursuit of knowledge, and we are missing the reason that God gave it to us. The word sin is hamartia: missing the point, missing the mark. James 1:27 says, "Pure and undefiled religion . . . is . . . to visit orphans and widows in their troubles, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." Notice what he puts first: Pure religion is helping those who are in need, showing your love to them, and then it is keeping oneself pure. Remember, the knowledge God gives us is predominantly and ultimately practical, useful, helpful, outgoing.

It Takes a Church

Depravity

Total depravity refers to the nature of fallen persons, not to their deeds. The word “total” refers to the total person--that every aspect of the person--mind, will, emotions, body--is corrupted by sin; and to the total human race, that every person since Adam and Eve, except for Jesus Christ, has been born with a nature that is alienated from God and in rebellion against God. Also, depravity must be viewed in relation to God, not by comparing men with men. With reference to God, total depravity means that no one is able in and of himself to do anything to choose God, to seek God, to please God, to love God, to glorify God, or to merit His salvation. Left to himself, every person will seek the things of self and sin. We are as unable to seek God as a corpse can choose to get up and walk (Eph. 2:1-3). The Westminster Confession states it clearly. Speaking of Adam and Eve it says (VI: II, III, IV),

Perversity

Genesis 20:9

Also contains it: And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, "What have you done to us? How have I offended you that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done." The word "offended" is translated from chata', and "sin" is translated from a cognate. Abimelech charges Abraham as having missed the standard of behavior against him and his nation.

Jeremiah writes in Lamentations 5:7
"Our fathers sinned and are no more, but we bear their iniquities." Here, the fathers missed achieving God's standard, that is, the level of conduct He would have exhibited was He involved in the same situation as they. "Iniquities" is translated from the Hebrew Avon, which suggests "perversity."

Rebellion

New International Version
For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as King."

New Living Translation
Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as King."

English Standard Version
For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and the presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.”

Transgression

Ezekiel 9:4
Obviously, to sigh and cry over the abominations of Israel, we have to know what sin is and what God considers abominable. The apostle John tells us that "sin is the transgression of the law" (I John 3:4). In Romans 3:20, Paul instructs us that "by the law is the knowledge of sin." In Romans 7:7, he reflects that he "would not have known sin except through the law." So we must know God's law in order to identify sin properly.

2. Models of Sin

Stain

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (ESV)
What do you do if you have confessed your sin and received God’s forgiveness but continue to be afflicted with the after effects of your transgression?  The after effects are the stain of sin – the residual vexation in your soul over what you have done.  The stain of sin often is the shame, embarrassment or feelings of failure that continues to plague you.  It can be a self-loathing and inability to forgive yourself for the stupid choices that you’ve made.  The stain of sin can also be an obsessive preoccupation with reliving your sin, which dangerously can become the tool of the flesh and the devil to subtlety lure you back into sins lair

Crime

Crime is a legal concept.
Sin is a moral concept.

Crime is defined, therefore, by civil codes.
Sin is defined by God.
Not all sins are crimes (e.g., adultery).
In general, every justly-defined crime is a sin, if for no other reason, that it is a sin to break a just law (although typically crimes are sins in their own right).

Personal Rejection

Rejection is a painful experience no matter what the cause, and all too often, we don't assign enough blame to the rejecter. We simply agree with his or her evaluation of us and carry a feeling of inferiority or of being "damaged goods" all our lives.

3. Dimensions of Sin

Spiral

While the effects of compromise are poignantly recorded for us in Christ’s messages to Pergamos and Thyatira, its insidious nature is usually not understood by its victims until it is too late and they are trapped in a spiraling escalation of sin. This type of sin is like a vortex that continually leads its prey into greater degradation with fewer and fewer opportunities for escape.

Sickness

It’s vital to understand the context in which this discussion of sickness and healing takes place. The pressing issues that occasioned the letter are spiritual drifting—James has called it “double-mindedness” and “spiritual adultery”—and the need to return to God in wholehearted faith. In chapter 5, James seems to identify sickness with sin, and healing with repentance:
The prayer offered . . . will make the sick person well [literally sosei, “saved”]. (5:15)
Confess your sins . . . so that you may be healed. (5:16)
Notice the results appear the “wrong way round” here: the sick person is saved, and the sinner is healed. Ordinarily, we’d expect the sick person to be healed and the sinner saved. But James is drawing a connection between the person’s sickness and sin.

Addiction

The word addiction has two basic meanings. The first definition and the one most of us are familiar with is “to cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on a habit-forming substance.” Those who are addicted or “given to much wine” (Titus 1:72:3), “drunkards” (1 Timothy 3:3) or “heavy drinkers” (1 Timothy 3:8) are disqualified from teaching or holding a position of authority in the church. It’s clear that church leadership needs to be sober and self-controlled so that, by their example, they can teach others to be the same, for we know that “drunkards . . . shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:10). Believers must not be dependent upon alcohol, and it stands to reason that this would also apply to addiction to any other substance, i.e. drugs, pornography, gambling, gluttony, tobacco, etc.

4. Structure of Sin

Personal

Personal sin is an “action, word or desire contrary to the eternal law." [1] Sin is a human act, since it requires the exercise of freedom, [2] and is expressed in external actions, words, or internal acts. Moreover, it is a human act that is evil. That is, it is opposed to God's eternal law, which is the first and supreme moral law, and the foundation of all other law. In a more general sense, sin can be defined as any human act opposed to the moral norm, that is, to right reason illumined by faith.

Social

The sinfulness of society into which a person is born, its premise is that modern socialization and collectivization have immersed everyone in other people's values and moral actions to an unprecedented degree.

Structural

Structural sin is subtly but crucially different (and more serious) than social sin. It is the social objectification of sin whereby it is embodied in structures and cultural entities. Such objectification is then empowered to be self-perpetuating. It is a kind of cultural domain in which sin can prosper and in which virtue is swamped. Apartheid in South Africa is an obvious example of such structural sin.

5. Degrees of Sin

Venial

Venial sin denotes either an act of a less serious matter or one which involves grave matter but is performed without full knowledge or complete consent of the will.  Unlike mortal sin which involves a complete turning away from God’s love, venial sin wounds our relationship with God.  The periodic confession of venial sins is also highly recommended as part of a good spiritual regimen.  Actually, all sin is serious since it hurts our relationship with our Lord.  Moreover, even venial sin can lead to mortal sin or become habitual if not corrected.  A practice of regular confession helps the individual better form the conscience, recognize faults and weaknesses, resist temptations, and receive God’s grace to heal and strengthen the soul.  St. Teresa of Avila said, “Always fear when some fault you commit does not grieve you.  For in regard to sin, even venial, you know that the soul must feel great sorrow….  For the love of God, take care never to grow careless about venial sin, however small….  There is nothing small if it goes against so great a sovereign.”

Mortal

Mortal sin destroys our union with God and the presence of sanctifying grace in our souls.  Because these are heinous actions in the eyes of God, for a person to knowingly and willingly commit them indicates a turning away from the love of God.  Anyone conscious of a mortal sin must undergo an interior conversion and then receive forgiveness and absolution through the Sacrament of Penance.  Until making a good confession and receiving sacramental absolution, anyone conscious of being in a state of mortal sin cannot receive Holy Communion, except under extraordinary circumstances, e.g. no possibility of going to confession (cf. Catechism, #1457).  Moreover, an unrepentant person guilty of mortal sin objectively risks eternal damnation in hell; however, “although we can judge that an act is in itself a grave offense, we must entrust judgment of a person to the justice and mercy of God” (Catechism, #1861).

6. Gravity of sin

The Gravity of SinMortal and Venial Sin

1854
Sins are rightly evaluated according to their gravity. the distinction between mortal and venial sin, already evident in Scripture,129 became part of the tradition of the Church. It is corroborated by human experience.

1855
Mortal sin destroys charity in the heart of man by a grave violation of God's law; it turns man away from God, who is his ultimate end and his beatitude, by preferring an inferior good to him.  Venial sin allows a charity to subsist, even though it offends and wounds it.

1856
Mortal sin, by attacking the vital principle within us - that is, charity - necessitates a new initiative of God's mercy and a conversion of heart which is normally accomplished within the setting of the sacrament of reconciliation:
When the will set itself upon something that is of its nature incompatible with the charity that orients man toward his ultimate end, then the sin is mortal by its very object . . . whether it contradicts the love of God, such as blasphemy or perjury, or the love of neighbors, such as homicide or adultery... But when the sinner's will is set upon something that of its nature involves a disorder but is not opposed to the love of God and neighbor, such as thoughtless chatter or immoderate laughter and the like, such sins are venial.

1857
For a sin to be mortalthree conditions must together be met: "Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent."

1858
Grave matter is specified by the Ten Commandmentscorresponding to the answer of Jesus to the rich young man: "Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraudHonor your father and your mother."132 The gravity of sins is more or less greatmurder is graver than theft. One must also take into account who is wrongedviolence against parents is in itself graver than violence against a stranger.

1859
Mortal sin requires full knowledge and complete consent. It presupposes knowledge of the sinful character of the act, of its opposition to God's law. It also implies a consent sufficiently deliberate to be a personal choiceFeigned ignorance and hardness of heart do not diminish, but rather increase, the voluntary character of a sin.

1860
Unintentional ignorance can diminish or even remove the imputability of a grave offense. But no one is deemed to be ignorant of the principles of the moral law, which are written in the conscience of every man. the promptings of feelings and passions can also diminish the voluntary and free character of the offense, as can external pressures or pathological disordersSin committed through malice, by deliberate choice of evil, is the gravest.

1861
Mortal sin is a radical possibility of human freedom, as is love itself. It results in the loss of charity and the privation of sanctifying grace, that is, of the state of grace. If it is not redeemed by repentance and God's forgiveness, it causes exclusion from Christ's kingdom and the eternal death of hell, for our freedom, has the power to make choices forever, with no turning back. However, although we can judge that an act is in itself a grave offense, we must entrust judgment of persons to the justice and mercy of God.

1862
One commits venial sin when, in a less serious matter, he does not observe the standard prescribed by the moral law, or when he disobeys the moral law in a grave matter, but without full knowledge or without complete consent.

1863
Venial sin weakens charity; it manifests a disordered affection for created goods; it impedes the soul's progress in the exercise of the virtues and the practice of the moral good; it merits temporal punishmentDeliberate and unrepented venial sin disposes of us little by little to commit a mortal sin. However venial sin does not set us in direct opposition to the will and friendship of God; it does not break the covenant with God. With God's grace, it is humanly reparable. "Venial sin does not deprive the sinner of sanctifying gracefriendship with Godcharity, and consequently eternal happiness."
While he is in the fleshman cannot help but have at least some light sins. But do not despise these sins which we call "light": if you take them for light when you weigh them, tremble when you count them. A number of light objects make a great mass; a number of drops fill a river; a number of grains make a heap. What then is our hope? Above all, confession.

1864
"Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”.
There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy
by repenting rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit.
Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss.
